One million new iPhones sold in just three days
NEW YORK - Apple reported that it had sold more than one million next-generation iPhone 3GS in just three days, defying some analysts who had predicted it would not reach the levels attained during its predecessor's launch.
"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning," chief executive Steve Jobs said in a written statement.
He said over one million iPhone 3GS models had been sold through Sunday and six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release.
"With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever," Jobs said.
The iPhone 3GS went on sale in the United States on Friday while the software upgrade was released on Wednesday.
Apple recently halved the price of its entry-level iPhone to US$99 and rolled out the next-generation model for US$199 to US$299, looking to sustain the momentum for its popular smart phone amid the recession and fresh competition.
Steady streams of customers into Apple stores since the iPhone's unveiling on Friday suggested consumer interest in the iconic smart phone remains high since the first version was released roughly two years ago, despite increasing competition from Research In Motion's (RIMM) BlackBerry and Palm's (PALM) recently introduced Pre.

Network Selection for AT&T Bold Now On OS 4.6.0.282
This is a rather interesting find by kav in the CrackBerry forums. Previously any OS you installed on AT&T BlackBerry Bolds never "unlocked" the network selection mode option on those devices, but with the release of 4.6.0.282 on CSL that option is now available to all AT&T Bold owners.
Some of you may be asking why this is so important. Well, for those who may be in a not so hot area for 3G can now set their device to a 2G setting in turn saving your battery life, allowing better call quality and having applications even run better. Having your device working in an area that has weak 3G causes the device to constantly be searching for a better 3G signal even though it may never find it when their is a perfectly fine 2G signal that it could attach too. In short, it causes less stress on your device, it's a good option to have.

BlackBerry 9020 (Onyx) to Get Optical Trackpad Afterall!
Ooops. Remember Wednesday when we dropped word on the blogs that the Onyx had been tagged the 9020 and that we had also heard the trackball would be staying on the final version?? Well we've got good news - it turns out that in regards to the trackball, that's not the case!!! Upon further digging, and double confirming with some trusty peeps who have now actually seen it, there are already now Onyx's in existence that in fact have the optical trackpad (currently featured in the Curve 8520 - pictured above on right). The new and improved word is that the Onyx's buttons have received a slight redesign to accomodate the inclusion of the trackpad and that the 9020 will go to market with it. Awesome. This all jives well with previous word (dating back to May) that the Onyx/Driftwood would definitely be getting it (even though pre-release devices were sporting trackballs). As for why the Onyx didn't have the trackpad in place from the get-go, I think part of the reason has to do with the fact the Curve 85xx was designed by RIM's Florida team (tasked with reducing costs/replacement), while the onyx was/is being developed by RIM's German design team, obviously somewhat in parallel. Though the trackpad isn't a 'perfect' solution (check out this forum post of where it has let me down just once in over six weeks of use), as I've gushed many times in the blogs already I'm absolutely in love with it. Now I'm truly excited for the Onyx. I can't wait to see photos of the updated device. The only bad news here is for the those who have pre-release Onyx's... it's hard to say (I'm guessing it's doubtful??) that future firmware upgrades will continue to support the trackball with the trackpad now going in place. Ah well.. them is the breaks. Bring on the trackpad!

Beta App: Mango Manga Reader For Storm
This is an awesome beta application I found while digging through the CrackBerry forums. I personally love reading Manga and one of my favorite sites to visit is OneManga. Sadly though, it's not a very "mobile friendly" site, but thankfully Mango looks to solve that problem for Manga fans who are also BlackBerry Storm users. With Mango you can logon to OneManga and get your Manga on the go. Since it is a beta application the developer, Andiamo is seeking some feedback from users such as yourself. Be sure to check out his thread in the forums and let him know what you think of this great application and check out the known issues list.
Blackberry Onyx 9020
What's in a name? If you read our BlackBerry Onyx Review you'll remember we spent some time talking about the Onyx codename, and at that time did not yet know the Onyx's device model number (the OS was simply labeled with "onyx") but we did take the view point of the device itself being a next generation of BlackBerry Bold based on the nature of the device and what it would be replacing. That said, more recent versions of the Onyx's operating system have been tagged with a device model, which is currently stated as BlackBerry 9020. With the BlackBerry Bold being the 9000, it thus makes sense that a device with a 9020 device model number will also fall under the BlackBerry Bold brand, be it a Bold "something or other" or simply Bold 9020. Of course the device model could change between now and the Onyx's ultimate roll out (that's why there's a question mark in the blog post title - this could be wrong), but as it stands now it seems we can start thinking of the Onyx as a BlackBerry Bold. As for release, we're not sure yet.... but we have heard that mass production has been pushed back to September - so you should have this device in your hand before (hopefully long before) Christmas. Also, if you were hoping the Onyx might somehow inherit the optical trackpad found on the 8520 Curve before its design was finalized, you're out of luck. The 9020 will feature a trackball. It seems RIM's viewpoint on the trackpad (at least for now) is that its a low-cost solution/technology rather than a feature upgrade (even though I personally think it is awesome and love using it on the 8520), though we have heard RIM is looking at even more input method technologies (alternatives to the trackball) along these lines for future devices. And speaking of next-generation Bolds... the newest codename that has emerged is "nautilus". Word is this could be the 3G BlackBerry "slider" that many of you out there have been longing for. 
New BlackBerry Messenger Coming To All 5.0 Devices

Mengenal Iphone 3G S
Jakarta - Setelah menggebrak pasar dengan iPhone 3G, kini generasi lanjutan smartphone tersebut akan segera meluncur. Yuk, kita intip seperti apa seluk beluk iPhone 3G S ini.
Huruf 'S' pada nama iPhone tersebut konon mewakili 'speed' alias kecepatan. iPhone 3G S akan mulai dijual di beberapa negara, termasuk Amerika Serikat dan Jerman, pada 19 Juni 2009 pada kisaran harga USD 199 (16GB) hingga USD 299 (32GB).
Dikutip IndoBERRY dari Macworld, Senin (15/06/2009) berikut ini adalah beberapa penjelasan dari pihak Apple mengenai seluk beluk iPhone 3G S:
Perbedaan dengan iPhone 3G
Apple senior vice president untuk produk market global, Phil Schiller telah menjelaskan arti huruf 'S' tersebut. "Huruf S berarti adalah kecepatan," ujarnya. Hal inilah yang selalu dikedepankan iPhone dalam penjualan iPhone 3G S. Menurut informasi dari Apple, ini adalah jenis iPhone tercepat di muka bumi, dua kali lebih cepat dan lebih responsif.
Pihak Apple menjelaskan, nantinya aplikasi akan berjalan lebih cepat dari iPhone 3G, bahkan tidak ada jeda waktu ketika berpindah aplikasi. Di sisi lain Safari browser memiliki dukungan kecepatan rendering lebih pada iPhone 3G S ini.
Secepat apakah? Berdasar hasil tes dari pihak Apple, loading pada game memiliki waktu lebih cepat 2,4 kali sementara untuk membuka sebuah attachment memiliki waktu 3,6 kali lebih cepat dari iPhone 3G. Sebelumnya beredar kabar dari t-mobile, bahwa iPhone 3G S akan memiliki RAM sebesar 256 MB dan processors sebesar 600 Mhz, sementara iPhone 3G hanyalah 128 MB/412 Mhz.
Benarkah game iPhone 3 G S lebih sempurna?
"Grafis iPhone 3G S akan berjalan lebih responsif, lebh cepat dan lebih baik," klaim Bob Borchers, Senior Director iPhone product marketing global. Pihak Apple menyatakan iPhone baru ini akan didukung oleh Open GL ES 2.0, sebuah teknologi grafis 3D terbaru bagi ponsel.
Tidak hanya itu saja, iPhone 3G S juga didukung oleh Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX, sebuah chip yang ditanam di ponsel, yang akan membawa teknologi Open GL ES 2.0 bekerja lebih baik. Hal itu terjadi karena teknologi tersebut bekerja untuk memaksimalkan kemampuan rendering.
Fitur Baru pada iPhone 3G S
Daya Tahan Baterai
Menurut Apple, baterai iPhone 3G S lebih lama dari versi sebelumnya. Apple menjanjikan iPhone 3 G S mampu menjalankan akses Wi-Fi selama 9 jam, video selama 10 jam, serta 12 jam untuk talk time 2G, sementara untuk 3G hanya mampu bertahan selam 5 jam.
Apakah iPhone 3G S support A2DP dan AVRCP ?
iPhone 3 G S, sama seperti iPhone 3G dengan iPhone software 3.0 telah support A2DP. Teknologi ini mampu melakukan streaming audio melalui bluetooth. tetapi belum ada keterangan resmi dari pihak Apple apakah juga support dengan AVRCP, yang memungkinkan melakukan kontrol audio-video via bluetooth.
Lalu bagaimana dengan di Indonesia ?
Sebelumnya telah diberitakan bahwa Telkomsel menyatakan kesiapannya untuk memasok iPhone 3G S. Namun, operator yang punya 75 juta pelanggan seluler ini belum memastikan kapan iPhone 3GS ini akan dihadirkan ke Indonesia
Mengintip Nokia E72
Singapura - Nokia perkenalkan ponsel seri Eseries lanjutan, denganfull-QWERTY, yang bernama Nokia E72. Ponsel baru ini diperkenalkan pada Nokia Connection event yang berlangsung di Singapura.
Nokia E72 keluar di pasaran menyusul kesuksesan saudara tuanya yakni Nokia E71. Ponsel baru ini memungkinkan pengguna untuk mengatur akun Instant Messaging (IM) dari ponsel saat mereka terhubung dengan akun IM seperti Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, Ovi dan sebagainya.
"Walau E71 masih memimpin di pasaran, kami akan tetap meningkatkan kualitas teknologi," ujar Ilari Nurmi selaku Vice President Nokia. "Kami juga memperkenalkan penggunaan e-mail seperti pada Nokia E75 dan memberi pilihan navigasi secara lebih melalui menu, e-mail dan perpindahan gambar yang cepat. Kami juga meng-upgrade kamera sampai 5MP, serta mengubah jack audio jadi 3.5 mm." imbuhnya.
Kemampuan Instant Messaging dari Nokia E72 dilengkapi onboard client untuk Mail for Exchange dan IBM Lotus Notes Traveler. Nokia Messaging memungkinkan pengguna mengakses Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, Ovi Mail, bahkan akun e-mail kantor secara mudah.
Fasilitas lain adalah penambahan kecepatan internet dan downlink speeds, seperti pada A-GPS serta kompas digital yang telah terintegerasi. Konon pula Nokia E72 akan hadir dengan versi Quickoffice baru yang memungkinkan kompabilitas dengan Microsoft Office 2007.
Dikutip IndoBERRY dari Softpedia, Rabu (17/06/2009), smartphone baru ini diharapkan mulai berlabuh di pasaran pada akhir kuartal ketiga tahun ini. Diperkirakan Nokia E72 ini dijual pada kisaran 350 Euro.
BLACKBERRY TOUR
Toronto - Research In Motion (RIM) mengungkap jajaran Blackberry terbarunya dengan nama Blackberry Tour. Handset terbaru RIM ini ditujukan untuk memenangkan pangsa pasar di segmen eksekutif maupun konsumen mainstream.
BlackBerry Tour diklaim sebagai persilangan dari Blackberry Curve yang populer di kalangan konsumen umum dengan BlackBerry Bold yang menyasar pasar korporat.
Dilansir Reuters dan dikutipdetikINET, Selasa (16/6/2009), co-Chief Executive RIM, Jim Balsillie menyatakan BlackBerry Tour bakal segera tersedia di pasaran Amerika oleh operator Verizon dan Sprint serta di negara asalnya, Kanada. Namun belum dijelaskan kapan handset ini menyambangi pasar mancanegara.
Secara fisik bentuk Tour tidak berbeda drastis dengan handset BlackBerry lainnya, dengan bentuk candy bar dan juga keberadaan keyboard QWERTY. Namun Balsillie mengklaim produk BlackBerry Tour adalah langkah besar bagi RIM.
RIM menyebut Tour sebagai 'ponsel dunia' karena handset itu bisa dengan mudahnya mengakses layanan data dan suara pada jaringan yang berada di luar negara pengguna. Untuk lebih memikat konsumen, Tour dibenami fitur multimedia mumpuni seperti kamera 3,2 megapiksel dan media player berkualitas.
Fasilitas lain yang disertakan dalam Tour termasuk HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, dan navigasi GPS. Namun yang cukup disayangkan adalah tidak ada fitur Wi-Fi di dalamnya.
Produk yang menyasar konsumen yang lebih luas seperti Tour ini memang dirasa penting bagi RIM di tengah persaingan yang kian ketat. Sebab rival seperti Apple dan Palm rupanya terus mengintai RIM dengan produk andalannya.
TIPS MEMBELI BLACKBERRY BEKAS
Membeli BlackBerry bekas tidaklah sesederhana seperti membeli ponsel bekas lainnya. Jangan sampai tertipu. Ada beberapa hal yang harus Anda cermati sebelum memutuskan untuk membelinya.
Anda jelas perlu memeriksa dengan teliti spesifikasi produknya. Alasannya, banyak pengguna akhirnya tak bisa akses sama sekali layanan karena PIN disuspen (ditolak) atau sebelumnya menggunakan jenis layanan operator berbeda (PIN belum dirilis).
Salah satu cara mudah dalam persoalan spesifikasi ini bisa dilakukan dengan melakukan WIPE BlackBerry alias mereset secara manual perangkat agar data yang ada sebelumnya bisa hilang. Cara WIPE adalah sebagai berikut:
Masuk menu OPTIONS >> SECURITY OPTIONS >> GENERAL SETTINGS >> Tekan logo BlackBerry disamping gambar telepon hijau >> Pilih menu WIPE HANDHELD >> Ketikan tulisan BlackBerry. Proses WIPE pun berjalan.
Jika proses itu sudah tuntas, maka masukkan SIM Card Anda yang sudah bisa mengakses layanan BlackBerry.
Lihat logo tulisan di gprs/edge/3g di sebelah kanan layar ponsel Anda. Apabila tulisannya masih huruf kecil, kemungkinan besar PIN ponsel disuspen. Cara ini juga bisa memastikan bahwa memori selanjutnya akan kosong, tidak lagi terisi berbagai aplikasi bawaan dari pemilik sebelumnya.
Di sisi lain, Anda juga bisa mencoba memperbesar huruf kapital tadi dengan masuk menu OPTIONS, lalu ADVANCED OPTIONS, lalu HOST ROUTING TABLE, lalu klik simbol BlackBerry, dan selanjutnya pilih menu REGISTER NOW.
Apabila dua cara ini dilakukan dan huruf masih kecil, besar kemungkinan suspen atas personel identification number/PIN masih terjadi sehingga BlackBerry bekas hanya bisa menelepon dan SMS. Pembeli unit seken juga tak kalah penting memeriksa IT policy dengan melakukan sebagai berikut:
Masuk menu OPTIONS >> SECURITY OPTIONS >> FIREWALL. Jika muncul tulisan enabled dengan logo gembok merah di sebelahnya, maka BlackBerry bekas terkena kebijakan internet dari pengguna sebelumnya.
Kebijakan sebelumnya, misalnya BlackBerry Entreprise Service (BES), akan membuat Anda tidak bisa mengakses layanan internet di luar yang telah ditentukan sehingga kenyamanan berselancar di dunia maya akan terganggu.
Jadi, dua kunci utama dalam membeli BlackBerry bekas adalah memastikan bahwa PIN tidak disuspen dan layanan sudah bebas dari kebijakan pengguna sebelumnya (PIN sudah dirilis). Prosedur lainnya yang tidak kalah penting adalah memperhatikan kesesuaian nomor PIN dan IMEI di menu status dengan di dus BlackBerry Anda.
Jika ternyata berbeda, sangat disarankan untuk tidak dibeli daripada berabe di kemudian hari. Saran lainnya, sama saja dengan membeli ponsel standar. Misalnya kondisi barang (mulus atau tidak), kualitas microphone, tata letak keypad, efek vibrator, dan lainnya.
Yang jelas, membeli BlackBerry bekas tidaklah sesederhana seperti membeli ponsel bekas lainnya. Jangan sampai tertipu!
Pertemuan RIM dan BRTI Berlangsung Kritis
Jakarta - Akhirnya, pertemuan Researh In Motion (RIM) dengan regulator yang diwakili Badan Regulasi Telekomunikasi Indonesia (BRTI) dan Depkominfo berlangsung. Tak dinyana, pertemuan yang khusus membahas nasib BlackBerry di Indonesia ini berlangsung sangat kritis.
Dikatakan Gatot S. Dewa Broto, Kepala Humas dan Pusat Informasi Depkominfo, kedatangan delegasi RIM dari Kanada ini dipimpin oleh Robert E. Crow selaku Vice President on Industry, Goverment & University Relations of RIM. Sementara dari kubu Indonesia tampak para anggota BRTI -- minus sang Ketua Basuki Yusuf Iskandar dan Abdullah Alkaf -- serta Azhar Hasyim, Direktur Standarisasi Ditjen Postel.
"Pertemuan tersebut berlangsung sangat kooperatif dan cukup bermanfaat namun sangat kritis," ujarnya dalam keterangan tertulis, Senin (15/6/2009).
Pasalnya, lanjut Gatot, memungkinkan kedua belah pihak saling sharing informasi dan mencoba mencari berbagai alternatif solusi terkait dengan berbagai masalah yang terkait dengan perdagangan produk dan layanan perangkat telekomunikasi BlackBerry di Indonesia yang akhir-akhir ini cukup banyak memperoleh sorotan tajam dari masyarakat.
BRTI dan Depkominfo pada dasarnya menyampaikan apreasiasi atas kesediaan RIM untuk menyampaikan sejumlah klarifikasi yang disampaikan oleh pihak Indonesia. Dialog semacam ini diharapkan akan terus berlanjut dilakukan pada masa-masa yang akan datang dengan tujuan selain untuk memperkecil perbedaan pandangan di antara kedua pihak, juga untuk mengetahui regulasi dan kebijakan.
Pertemuan ini sebelumnya sudah didahului dengan pertemuan dengan topik bahasan yang sama di kantor BRTI juga yang berlangsung pada minggu lalu namun hanya terbatas khusus internal para pemangku kepentingan di Indonesia, yaitu 3 penyelenggara telekomunikasi (PT Telkomsel, PT Excelcomindo Pratama dan PT Indosat), komunitas pengguna BlackBerry dan BRTI serta Departemen Kominfo.
Khusus pada pertemuan yang dilakukan pada tanggal 15 Juni 2009 ini RIM menjelaskan tentang posisi mereka dalam pengembangan perdagangan BlackBerry di Indonesia dan sangat berharap agar penetrasi pasar di Indonesia meningkat pesat sebagaimana saat ini saja baik yang langsung diperdagangkan melalui RIM langsung maupun tidak langsung adalah sekitar 300 ribu dan diperkirakan akan meningkat terus
iPod Touch 3.0
Jakarta - Apple merilis iPhone OS 3.0, sebuah perubahan pada sistem operasi ponsel iPhone dan pemutar musik iPod Touch. Jika pemilik iPhone bisa upgrade gratis, pengguna iPod Touch harus membayar sebesar US$ 9.95 untuk mendapatkan beberapa fitur baru dalam sistem operasi itu.
"Saat anda memiliki iPhone 3.0 software update untuk iPod Touch, Anda akan mendapatkan fitur yang membuat tayangan video, game, dan musik jadi lebih menyenangkan," demikian pihak Apple, seperti dikutip Indoberry dari Softpedia, Rabu (17/06/2009).
Apple menjelaskan, ada beberapa penambahan fitur di OS 3.0 ini. Misalnya pengguna iPod touch dapat membeli langsung film, show TV serta audiobooks via Wi-Fi di iPod Touch. Kapabilitas stereo bluetooth memungkinkan pengguna menikmati beberapa konten yang kompatibel dengan headphones.
Selain itu masih ada fitur game secara P2P (Peer to Peer). Belum lagi ada pula tampilan keypad secara landscape, yang memudahkan pengguna untuk saling berkirim e-mail ataupun menulis catatan.
Salah satu fitur unggulan lain adalah cut dan copy paste. Fitur yang memudahkan pengguna meng-copy paste tulisan ini akan hadir juga pada iPod Touch. Nantinya pengguna bisa meng-copy text dari web page dan memasukkannya pada e-mail. Fungsi ini juga berjalan lintas aplikasi.
Berikut adalah beberapa fitur baru tersebut:
- Parental Controls - Mengamankan anak-anak dari bahaya internet
- Automatic Wi-Fi Login - Mengkoneksikan iPod touch dengan Wi-FI secara otomatis saat koneksi terputus.
- iTunes Store Account Creation - membuat akun iStore cukup dari iPod touch saja.
- 34 bahasa baru
- Beberapa penambahan pada Safari browser
- Sinkronisasi catatan
- Shake and Shuffle- pengguna cukup menggoyangkan iPod Touch, untuk memainkan musik yang berbeda pada music library.
